How You Do Anything Is How You Do Everything

May 9, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

This is good to remember when I’m starting to do a bad habit or make a decision. I like to think that I do things right all the time. I don’t. I am trying to improve upon it. One of the things I do is stay on something too long. I stay up too late. I don’t move on or get closure on something. That makes it harder for me to change some of my habits.

Daily Stoic(s)

May 8, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

Thursday - Count Your Blessings

It’s tough to appreciate what I have. For a little bit there I was very content. Since I’ve taken up golf I want more and more stuff. I want that lower score instead of being happy to just be playing something that I enjoy.

Yesterday - The Chain Method

I’ve found the chain method to be very helpful with improvements in my life. Buying a WHOOP has also helped. It’s allowed me to track my physical strain and recovery. It also has a morning journal that I can track the previous days activities for what I want to change. Having numbers in front of me help me identify areas of concern and provide me a way forward

Today - The Stoic Is A Work In Progress

I’ve found similar attributes in golf. There’s always opportunities to improve. Once I get to a place or an accomplishment there’s always something else. I’ve finally figured out how to drive the ball not only far but straight. I can improve upon that or I can go to work on my iron play that seems to have developed some issues of their own.

I have a journal for golf to write about after a round. It’s an opportunity for me to write my thoughts and the things I learned because I always want to be learning. Not the person on the course throwing fits.

Our Well-Being Lies In Our Actions

May 5, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

I’m a questioner account to the Four Tendencies by Gretchen Rubin. This means my tendencies are internally motivated and not so much externally motivated. I think this is what helps me not worry about what others think or set goals of glory or success. I instead focus on my actions and trying to make those better. I believe that will help me be happy and prosperous.

Fueling The Habit Bonfire

May 4, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

Habits are huge. I’ve spent the last year plus trying to rewire some of my bad habits and introduce more good ones. It’s tough work and takes a lot of time and patience. One of the areas I’ve really seen improvement is golf. Talking in the back swing is huge. It really don’t do any good. I’ve gotten to a point though with practice to stop letting thoughts come into my head during my swing. I have a routine now where I breath in and clear the mind. If I’m feeling a little extra chatty I’ll take an extra moment to calm the mind. It’s easy to say and even harder to do in practice consistently.

Kindness Is Always The Right Response

May 3, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

It’s hard to remember kindness when someone does something that annoys, frustrates, or angers me. It is the better response and I have had the opportunity to try it out. I find it much more effective.
