This is a very good stoic for remaining humble. Jealously is destructive. I’ve seen it before which is why I try to stay humble. I try to say good for them. I joined a Top Golf league recently. I had a bad round and got passed by someone who was struggling because they hadn’t played in a couple years. I congratulated them when they got the better score because it wasn’t about me. It was about the team and the person having a good experience for coming out. I’ll have my successes and I’ll have my failures. I try to take both with grace.

Words Can't Be Unsaid

This is really true in today’s media where everything is recorded. Even positive messages can be twisted into context-less dialogue that gets people in trouble. I have to be careful myself because I tend to be a bit more vocal and transparent about things. Primarily at work.

All For One, One For All

What’s good for the whole is not always good for the individual. You can flip that around. I find this interesting because some would argue the pandemic is not good for the whole. While others would. In my view the numbers don’t justify the extremes we went to for the pandemic. Instead we were focused on individuals and individual stories. Some of my friends lost family members and friends to the pandemic and that’s awful. That’s an individual story though.

What also suffered from the pandemic response was education and businesses. Across the board children during this time suffered from doing education virtually. Some businesses are no longer around while other’s had to adjust to a lack of business. Government bail out kept them afloat which will also have an impact down the road. Now we’re dealing with supply chain issues. The author of The Daily Stoic was a proponent of a lot of the se measures. Which to me is a bit interesting because I’m finding that stoicism can be used for multiple view points of an argument or topic. It’s how each INDIVIDUAL wants to view it.

Tuesday - Your Actual Needs Are Small

I remember when I was learning golf and having one good shot was enough. A year later I’m much better and I hold myself to a higher standard for shots. I’m trying to learn to be more humble about them and reset expectations. I try to appreciate that I’m out in nature getting exercise. The score is nice but not the point of the activity. I do want to strive to get better, I just need to remember how far I’ve come and that it takes time to get even better.

Wednesday - You Can’t Touch Me

This is a great stoic to have. I practice this a lot on the golf course after bad and good shots. I won’t let the bad shots affect my next shot. In fact often times I’ve stood up and made a great shot after a bad shot because I don’t let them get to me.

Thursday - Let Virtue Shine Bright

This to me is a pursuit of stoicism. It’s a long journey and along the way we should maintain truth, justice, and self-control. I also see it as trying to improve upon it.

Yesterday - The Most Valuable Asset

Virtue and inner-strength and a desire to improve these. Keeping these are the only things that really matter. Wealth and success have their place but I do not control those entirely. This is why I’m continuing to do these stoics daily and jouranling them on a blog because it’s a journey.

Today - A Mantra Of Mutual Interdependence

One of my new sayings in my industry is that we are glorified hall monitors. Security is important for sure and it’s getting a lot of play in the news highlighting that importance. We need to remember though that we’re only one small piece in business. We’re the one telling people who they should be doing something. Often how things should be done are already documented by other parts of the business. They’re just not executed on properly.

You Hold The Trump Card

I control how I react to things. This comes at a good time where I feel I’ve forgotten some of that. Sunday’s become a day of dread because there is work the next day. I used to enjoy going to work the next day or at the very least lacked that dread for what the week would bring. Some of this is the changing of my role. It’s also how I view the changes.
