The Sign Of True Education

March 13, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

I need to focus on what lies in my power of control. I just got done with an awful round of golf. Once I swing I lose control of the ball. What I can control is in my swing. After that it’s up to the elements. Sometimes I get lucky other times I don’t. I had an interesting shot on one hole where I hit it through a set of trees. Once it hits the trees the ball can go anywhere. Sometimes good sometimes bad. I try not to get upset at outcomes, because I had some good ones today. A couple of those outcomes came when I accepted that the greens weren’t in the best shape and my ball could go anywhere. I let go of trying to control that and just put a good swing one the ball with the putter.

The Daily Drucker(s)

March 12, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Drucker: 366 Days of Insight and Motivation for Getting the Right Things Done.

Yesterday - Legitimacy of the Corporation

The action point is to consider if the company could and should operate in parts of the world with tyranny and anarchy. Healthcare has always operated in those places. It has to at some level. It may be dangerous and tough but it happens at some level. The way our company is setup is to provide healthcare through companies. So if a global company is in that area then I can see our company being there.

Today - Governance of the Corporation

The action point asks what workers work require advanced schooling and to provide them the value they bring and ask them to participate in decisions where their expertise is important. 100% of my team is that. I’m working to get into the habit of thanking them at the end of the week for their hard work. Because it is hard work. I’ve learned to challenge and delegate work to them. To have them take on more responsibility and make decisions.

Daily Stoic(s)

March 12, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

Yesterday - Ready And At Home

Struggle is a constant thing in life. I’ve felt the highs and definitely the lows. I try to learn from the lows. I love the line that we can learn the most from our failures. The stoic says to be prepared for those lows. I’m not sure exactly how you prepare for something like that. I accept that they’re going to happen and I work to make it through the lows and learn from them. Is there anything else I can do?

Today - The Best Retreat Is In Here, Not Out There

Inward focus is a way to reset and recollect the mind. I’ve been trying this lately. I don’t know that I’m doing it right because even after doing it I still feel the pressure. Work has been very stressful recently and I’m working to respond by ingesting massive amount of alcohol. I’m trying to read, do chores, workout, meditate. The pressure is still there. It may just require more practice.

The New Tasks of Government

March 10, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Drucker: 366 Days of Insight and Motivation for Getting the Right Things Done.

The action point is to get involved with groups that fight terrorism. I’m realizing that as I read these daily Druckers that the book does not age well. As I mentioned in the a previous post, the book Team of Teams by General Stanley McChrystal talks about the terrorism issue and how the US military evolved to combat the problem.

Timeless Wisdom

March 10, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

I was really test today. I had some things occur that put me in a hot and foul mood. I had to try really hard to remind myself that I was choosing to respond that way. Things worked out. Sort of. There are feelings inside me that have always reacted in that way and it will take many more instances and opportunities to practice to improve and get better at responding to certain situations. I feel I am making progress though.
