The Source Of Your Anxiety

January 26, 2022

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

Anxiety could be used to describe what’s causing my frustrations. I’m trying to control something out of my control because of anxiety. I worry that the company I’m at will start to fail because of the processes in place or being put in place. And while I may have ideas on how to fix, no one really cares. I haven’t been asked.

I need these types of stoics because I think I lose sight of these things later in the year. It might be worth it to start doing two of these a day so I can come back to them later in the year.

A Proper Frame of Mind

January 25, 2022

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

I don’t know if it’s the time of year or the lack of these types of stoics for 11 months out of the year but this one is hitting home. Not arguing back is something difficult for me. I grew up with a preacher father and my brother and I have taken up some of that mantle in our lives. I like to present at conferences at work. My brother at his non-profit or church. When we talk politics it can be all out. In fact my brother won’t talk politics anymore. Certainly not with my dad who has an exact opposite political position.

It’s something I’m learning at work. People don’t really care about my side right or wrong. They don’t want to see what’s an efficient path forward. They’re searching for answers and even though I may have the answer they probably won’t ask. I’m learning that I need to be okay with that. I can’t, “save” everyone. I might not even have the right answer. People don’t like disagreement. They like agreement and so finding what I can connect with them on is more influential than preaching what I think is right.

Daily Stoic(s)

January 24, 2022

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

Friday - Keep It Simple

Keeping it simple is something I struggle with. I tend to overthink work because I want it to be efficient and the right things to work on. That doesn’t always happen when there are other factors outside of my control. It can make work very difficult.

Saturday - You Don’t Have To Stay On Top Of Everything

This is something I’ve worked on at work. It still tends to rear it’s ugly head because of this or that. I’m learning to let go of needing to be on top of everything. The problem comes in when things start impacting me or even worse my team. I then feel obligated that I need to step in because it will be the most efficient route to a solution.

Yesterday - Philosophy As Medicine Of The Soul

This is an interesting one because I’ve used these as a daily reminder of stoicism. I’m not sure that’s enough for me because I’ve had some frustrating months for the last several months. I try to remember the stoic teachings. I often fail at putting them into practice. I lose site of things. I’m going to try and read more to see if that is sufficient in helping me remember certain things. Or at the very least get back to these teachings.

Today - For The Hot-Headed Man

This is something I definitely need to work on at work. I’ve made a lot of practice with controlling my temper. It seems to have boiled up though. It’s not ended well for me and something I need get more control over. I like the idea of remaining calm cool and collected.

Watching The Wise

January 20, 2022

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

I’m reading a really long book on Winston Churchill right now and I’m starting to identify with him. The situations he’s in and the way that he thinks. I find him to be a quite interesting role model. One of the things I’d like to do that he does is write more. I do that with these stoics but I feel like I could and should do more.

Daily Stoic

January 19, 2022

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

Yesterday - The Power Of A Mantra

I’ve always wanted a mantra. I just haven’t found that one that sticks.

Today - The Three Areas of Training

I have started to pay attention to when I get emotional and how I react. I’ve noticed drinking and eating can get a bit out of hand when I’m stressed. I’m trying to recognize those feelings and improve myself.
