I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.
Yesterday - What’s Truly Impressive
Spending extravagantly or spending it on people. This sort of goes back to idolizing things. I wasn’t expecting just this as a financial stoic. I think it can also mean spending more time on people. Video games come to mind. Is it more impressive to be the best player or spend time with family and friends. I guess if your teammates are your friends you could have both. Often it’s a team of strangers who build friendships. I’m getting a bit off track. There is certainly a financial component. I also think there’s a in the stars component and learning to stay grounded.
Today - You Are The Project
The mind is the asset that must be worked on most. The stoic talks about a doctor having his hands and a farmer having his farm as a way to become more proficient at their profession. I agree with that having worked in IT for 18 years., I got more out of doing my day-to-day job than I did going to training. Training certainly helps and lowers the curve to understanding things. My day-to-day work gave me opportunities to succeed and fail. I feel like I’m doing that now with my study of the daily stoic and Buddhism. I am now working on myself. I have opportunities daily to practice working on my self. I am having successes and failures. That’s comforting to me because I often focus on the failures instead of the successes.
