Wish Not, Want Not

February 11, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

This is an interesting concept. I’m thinking about it in terms of small things. I don’t desire fame or fortune. Those things have their problems. I also don’t get excited about upcoming things a whole lot. From time-to-time they happen. Usually, I take everything in stride. What I’m focusing on is work. Work that I want to get done, but I have a lot of other responsibilities that often take over that desire. I’m very busy at work fulfilling obligations to other things.

I desire to work on some things I’m interested in. The time I have for that is minimal. I still manage to get them done though. Usually, in a 40-hour work week. I’m also willing to accept adjusting those things. I wonder though if managing the obligations of others I’m losing out on my desires. My thoughts right now are a bit tangled.

I’m exhausted at the end of the day fulfilling needs and goals of others. They are still my own but I have control over very little because security’s nature is to prioritize things for me. When I get done with work I want to relax and blow off some steam. Yet, I still have chores and other things I need to do. Am I wanting too much of my own time to relax or should I not even want that and continue to grind things out. 7
