Reignite Your Thoughts

January 10, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

We all have bad days. I feel like I’ve had a bad couple of weeks. I’ve got a few different things going on that feel like they’re adding up to a bad mood. It’s the low I feel like I go to from time to time. The stoic talks about that we can change our mindset at any point. I’m working on that and I don’t feel like it’s as easy as it makes it seem. I am trying to have the right thoughts. I still feel worn down and not really my positive self. I think like anything it can take time. We learn and grow from it.

Wherever You Go, There Your Choice Is

January 9, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

I’m feeling a bit stressed in the early part of the year. I’ve got some different things going on that are a low level of stress. Added up though they can make it harder to sleep. I’ve reminded myself that I can only control what I can control. I need to make decisions that help with the stress not run or get frustrated by them.

See The World Like A Poet And An Artist

January 8, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

We recently watched the new Pixar movie Soul the other night. It was a good movie with a great message. This stoic applies. As part of the character development one of the characters discovers the beauty of life. In small moments all around us. Even in New York City where the movie was based. This has been a teaching I’ve tried to apply with my kids. I’ve always felt like I’m not doing enough. Not spending enough time with them. I learned last year that I shouldn’t look for those joyous moments. Instead I appreciate the small mounts we have together. That brief moment of a smile. Or that hug. Or the laughter that fills the air when they’re in a joyous state. Those are the moments that make the relationship. I’m not perfect. I’ve scared my kids at some level. I hope though that the good moments out weigh the imperfect moments.

Reboot The Real Work

January 7, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

In regards to finding my next project, I’ve struggled. I often have some ideas. Then analysis paralysis digs in and I’m less inclined to try something. What’s interesting is that stoicism says we should cut out the things of no value. Then turns around and says I should go do work. I should have something. It gets confusing for me. I want to simplify and enjoy my time with hobbies. I also feel like I’m supposed to go do something with a purpose.

Never Do Anything Out Of Habit

January 6, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

My role in security changes from day-to-day. Doing things the same way is ripe with problems. When I talk to other people and ask why they do things a certain way I cringe at the response, “we’ve always done it that way.” It’s not efficient, it’s not effective, it’s not secure, and it’s not creative. There are always new ways to do old things that make it better. I am constantly tweaking how I interact at work and my personal life. I always want to get better. I still have my bad habits. Those I am trying to work on. I’m trying to improve and disrupt.
