See The World Like A Poet And An Artist

January 10, 2022

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

Identifying the little wonders and moments in life. Movies are great for this. Everything in a shot is intentional. It’s meant to elicit some emotion or provide meaning. Sometimes it’s meant to be ambigious and that’s okay too. I marveled at how the most recent Matrix used color. Blue, red, and yellow were all prominent in the movie and it was great to watch.

Reboot The Real Work

January 9, 2022

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

Failure is not something I fear. I fail a lot and I try to learn from those failures.

Daily Stoic(s)

January 8, 2022

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

Yesterday - Peace Is In Staying The Course

Conviction is an approach I’m taking at work and this stoic lines up. Tranquility comes from knowing the path I’m on and having certainty around it.

Today - Never Do Anything Out Of Habit

This is a good one to remember as I’m working to change some of my habits. I’m sleeping more and drinking less. I’m reading more and watching TV or playing video games less. I believe there are some good habits like getting up at a reasonable time every morning or having the same breakfast. This frees the mind up to attend to change for other not so great habits.

Cut The Strings That Pull Your Mind

January 6, 2022

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

Be more than a pawn. I feel that I’ve done quite a bit of work on social media. I don’t really get sucked into it anymore. I’ve recognized the headaches and the feeling of dread and doom I get as I’m scrolling. I still use it but for specific purposes.

More recently I’ve been adjusting and paying attention to other things that may be pulling me in and distracting me from life. I’m sleeping more by going to bed early and trying to focus more on the things that really matter.

Circle of Control

January 5, 2022

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

This has been an important lesson for the pandemic. I can’t control my body or the chance of me getting COVID. I can reduce the chances of getting it but ultimately I have no control over whether or not I get it. This is important to remember in other parts of my life because I think I forget that and then try to control things that are very clearly outside of my control.

I read an interesting note earlier today from an executive. They can set direction and provide guidance but then it’s out of their hand and it’s up to all the people in the organization to execute on it.
