Salvation by Society

March 2, 2021

I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Drucker: 366 Days of Insight and Motivation for Getting the Right Things Done.

The action point is that the human resource department is not responsible for taking care of me. I am responsible. Coincidentally this came up in many forms for me today. I had asked to do some DiSC assessments and training for my team. I got back that I need to do another HR sponsored program. I’ve done the training and wasn’t exactly thrilled about it. DiSC is a pretty well known standard and something that I’ve read in multiple places will help me become a better manager. It’s something I’ll continue to push for because I believe it’s the right path for me as a manager and my team as contributors.

Another thing today is that I got a notification that my new hire had passed all his initial HR screenings, drug screening and background check. I had a welcome thing to fill out and that’s about it for on-boarding my new person outside of doing the paperwork on the start date. I take it a little further and have a 217 step checklist I run through with the new hire. This is from the offer all the way to 3-6 months past the start date. I want to get my people as productive as possible and this checklist helps with that. It’s not something that HR has.
